Building Materials Companies Give National Attention to Promote Fire Safety and Education Fire Prevention Week October 5-11, 2003
Point Roberts, WA; ECON Corporate Services - October 2, 2003 (ECON) http://www.Investorideas.com is pleased to update investors with research and industry news in the following sector: Fire Protection / Building Materials Stocks / Construction Stocks and Industry. Industry leaders like Home Depot and Lowe's Companies as well as International Barrier, an emerging company in the fire resistant building materials sector, are promoting Fire Safety and Education Fire Prevention Week, being held October 5-11, 2003. It is a great example of public companies serving the public.
The history of National Fire Prevention Week has it origins in the Great Chicago Fire, which occurred on October 9, 1871. The theme for this year's Fire Prevention Week 2003 is "When Fire Strikes: Get Out! Stay Out!" The European Week for Safety and Health at Work 2003, Dangerous Substances - Handle with Care is being held on 13 - 17 October 2003. With some of the high profile fires in the past year, such as Rhode Island's, fire prevention and safety week is a great education forum for everyone to use as a tool to save potential lives. A National Fire Prevention Association fire loss report showed that in 2002 there were approximately 400,000 residential fires that caused 2,670 deaths, 14,050 injuries and $6 billion in property damage.
One company's CEO, Mike Huddy (International Barrier) stated, "As we approach Fire Safety Week, I look at the industry and its future. If we are profiting from being in the business of selling fire safety products, we need to recognize the importance of public education and prevention. I think that as we move forward, the environmental and health issues related to toxicity will need to become as important as fire performance standards. We need to look at saving lives, but also the long term effects". International Barrier has a non-toxic inorganic coating that meets and exceeds fire-rating standards for their building categories.

International Barrier Technology Inc. ("Barrier") (OTCBB: IBTGF; TSXV: IBH) Barrier's Blazeguard wood panel uses a patented, non-toxic, non-combustible coating that releases water in the heat of fire. The panels exceed "model" building code requirements in every targeted fire test and application, and are unique in combining properties that increase panel strength and minimize environmental and human impact. Blazeguard uses new technology to bring a simple solution to fire resistance - water. The water is locked into the crystals of the thin coating applied onto plywood or OSB panels. The temperature rises during a fire; all the water is released from the coating.
Home Depot (HD: NYSE) has announced they have designated Oct. 4 as Fire Safety Awareness Day at all stores in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The goal is to educate customers about fire safety and home fire prevention. Home Depot's stock has taken a positive climb since March 2003 and has benefited from the strong growth in the sector.
