One Year After Tragic Rhode Island Fire, Companies Focus on Supplying Fire Resistant Foam for Soundproofing Clubs and Homes

CHAMBERSBURG, PA March 31, 2004 – One year after the tragic nightclub fire in Rhode Island killing 100 people, manufacturers and distributors continue to upgrade their soundproof products, taking into accountability not only its acoustic value, but also flame resistance.

One such company is American Micro Industries, Inc. (AMI), of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Unique to AMI, is its 1 1/8" X 4' X 8' egg crate studio foam. These panels have earned a high UL94-HFI fire rating. Specifically, this high fire rating consists of a safe material that does not have more than one specimen out of five that continues to flame for more than two seconds after the test flame is extinguished. Furthermore, to achieve this superior rating, the single specimen that continues to burn shall not flame for more than ten seconds.

A few uses reported by construction and HVAC companies, as well as homebuilders and homeowners include sound damping and absorption for an isolation booth, car, recording studio, DJ booth, boiler room, church, radio broadcasting, compressor, home office, RV, sound booth, boat, conference room, home studio, control room, gymnasium, auditorium, gymnasium, or home theater.

"Although there are a wide variety of sound proofing foam panels available to industry members and homeowners, AMI is unique in that standard panel size is 4' X 8', which is the perfect application for existing drywall, paneling and for other standard sized industrial and home applications," said Mike Staggs, marketing manager for American Micro Industries, Inc. "After the tragic Rhode Island nightclub fire, sales of our fire retardant soundproofing foam soared," he added.

In addition to an e-commerce site to purchase UL94-HFI fire rated foam directly from AMI, its Web site also includes valuable tips and how-to articles including "How to Soundproof a Room," and "How to Soundproof a Boat."
